How to Produce a Slot Car Video

Fitting the Camera In

The Camaro turned out to be the perfect car for this project. I found with the front grille of the car removed I could almost fit the camera under the bonnet and have it looking right through the front of the car. All I needed was a few more mm of height. The solution was to cut a hole in the bonnet that the top of the camera could poke out of. I made a hole by drilling the outside of the shape I needed and carefully cutting it out with a sharp modelling knife. (PICTURE A) I then used a small needle file to smooth the edges.

As it happened the profile of the bonnet almost perfectly matched that of the camera housing. (PICTURE B) The camera can protrude slightly and not look too out of place. By making it a tight fit the camera is held in place by the bonnet so no extra fitting method was needed. (PICTURE C) I also planned to remove the connector on the camera to replace it with something smaller. This proved to be tricky.
